Walmart has already started running ads and talking about their 50th anniversary this year, and will be kicking their PR machine into high gear starting the week of July 4th about how great Walmart has been for America. We know this isn't true, we know what Walmart's track record really is, and we need to keep up the pressure on them to change!
We will have food, and a panel of exciting speakers to lead a discussion about what it means for Walmart to be turning 50 and what we can do in DC over the summer and in to the fall to hold Walmart accountable and make sure they don't destroy our neighborhoods and communities. Please let me know if you will be able to join us on the 29th for this important and exciting event!

JUFJ is joining DC Public Trust in a city-wide campaign to ban direct corporate contributions to politicians. To place this initiative on the general ballot in November, the coalition needs to collect 23,000 signatures by July 9th. JUFJ volunteers have already helped to collect almost 10,000 signatures. Time is limited to get the rest - we need your help! Join us at our last event to collect signatures. To read more about the Money Out of Politics Campaign click here.

On November 19th, organizers, activists, and DC community members involved in local struggles occupied the vacant Franklin School building at 13th and K St in NW Washington, DC. This building had housed the Franklin homeless shelter until the city closed it in 2008, dispersing clients right before the beginning of hypothermia season. Over three years later, the city continues refusing to ensure the most basic human right to housing and access to services for everyone.
Six of those arrested in November go on trial on charges of Unlawful Entry
on MONDAY, JULY 9TH. The length of the trial is anyone's guess--probably
between two and five days. Before and during the trial, there are several
ways that you can lend your support to the defendants and the the larger
issue, all of which are valuable and deeply appreciated: To Read about how you can help click here.
Thank you for supporting the defendants and sending a message that the DC community wants control of our public property to meet the community's needs.
ROC DC would like to extend a huge thank you to DC Jobs with Justice, The Building Trades, CWA, The Re-Entry Network, the DSA, AFSCME, The Kalmanovitz Initiative, Occupy AU and Occupy DC, JUFJ, NLG, and everyone who's repeatedly come out to flyer, chant, sing, megaphone, picket, and bumrush the Capital Grille restaurant with ROC-DC since Nov 2011. !
ROC DC still needs your support:
For the month of July, ROC will be going to keep the heat steady on Capital Grille. They just found out that a board member of the Walmart Corporation has joined the board of the Darden Corporation!
