Jews United for Justice (JUFJ) is a dynamic and growing organization whose mission is to lead Washington-area Jews to act on our shared Jewish values by pursuing justice and equality in our local community. We connect Jews and Jewish institutions with the tools and opportunities to make a difference and mobilize the Jewish community to act in solidarity with local social justice campaigns.
JUFJ works on a variety of local justice issues including affordable housing, worker and immigrants' rights, and socially-conscious consumption.
The role of the Development & Communications Manager is to broaden JUFJ's foundation of support by expanding our donor base and increasing the organization's visibility among the Washington area Jewish community. The full-time position reports to the Executive Director.
Major Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy for Jews United for Justice, in the areas of major donors, foundation relations, and individual giving, working in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective major donors
- Manage institutional funding relationships - identify new foundation prospects, develop relationships with program officers, write grant applications and reports
- Develop and implement a communications strategy to support the organization's programmatic and fundraising initiatives, including media outreach, website, publications, and donor solicitation materials.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in progressive political advocacy, non-profit management, and/or community organizing; familiarity with the Jewish community is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in non-profit fundraising, with demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts and foundation grants
- Strong interpersonal skills; persuasive public speaking ability; superior writing and editing skills; significant experience in dealing effectively with high net worth individuals
- Excellent planning, organizational and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills, with an ability to prioritize, work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Self-starter who can work independently and able to collaborate with others.
Salary range is $40,000-$50,000, depending on experience, excellent benefits.
