Last Sunday, hundreds of people came together to celebrate local organizing and to lift up powerful honorees SEIU 32BJ, Bruce and Susie Turnbull, Betsy Krieger and Karen Kreisberg, and keynote speaker George Derek Musgrove. We heard how they’ve helped shape our community from the folks who know their work best.
We also celebrated the powerful work that JUFJ members have done over the past year, including receiving the Outstanding Partner Award from the Public Justice Center for our work in Maryland. Zafar Shah, who presented the award, said that:
JUFJ has been a pillar in the fight against legislation to curtail tenants’ rights and and an incredible ally in advancing bills to reform the eviction process.
Thanks for being part of our community, for doing work that deserves this kind of kvelling, and for supporting the Heschel Vision Awards.
May we all share our honorees’ visions and relentless fight!
Thank you to David Horowitz, Elizabeth Heyman, Ethan Miller, and Mark Wolff for taking photos at the Heschel Awards. Thank you to the DC Labor Chorus and Hazzan Dr. Ramón Tasat for providing music. And thank you to Rabbi Elizabeth Richman for ten years at JUFJ!
