Jews United for Justice (JUFJ) was created in April, 1998, by a small group of Jews in the greater Washington, DC area. Drawing on a tradition of Jewish commitment to justice and the talents and dedication of our leaders, JUFJ was founded as a grassroots community that seeks to repair the world by concentrating on issues of local concern.
In the over 25 years since our founding, we have grown from that small group of Jews to a vibrant community with a deep commitment to local organizing and advancing progress through legislative campaigning. We have expanded our footprint to Baltimore, Montgomery County, and Annapolis, and launched a Campaign Fund to endorse local candidates who align with our values.
JUFJ has been involved in successful campaigns to pass minimum wage increases, paid sick days, and paid family leave. We have worked for renters’ rights, and to transform public safety. For more on our past campaigns, visit jufj.org/past-campaigns.
Jews United for Justice is not the same organization as Jews for Urban Justice, Jews United for Democracy and Justice, or Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, which are all completely unrelated to each other. We are also a different organization from the Jews United for Justice that is based in Missouri. Read more about our history with Jews for Urban Justice below.
