Rakhel (pronounced ruh-ḣel) joined JUFJ in 2019 as a program assistant and community organizer through the Avodah Service Corps.
Rakhel recently graduated from Bryn Mawr College, where they double majored in religion and sociology, served as president of their campus Hillel, organized with J Street U, and founded their campus IfNotNow chapter. Rakhel was trained in Jewish community organizing through the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism’s Machon Kaplan fellowship in DC, where they interned at the Center for Responsible Lending to advocate for people of color, women, and low income borrowers. Rakhel has also worked on Keshet’s advocacy team, where they mobilized the Jewish community to defend transgender rights in Massachusetts.
They write for the Jewish Women’s Archive, serve as the Jewish Ritual and Resources Coordinator on the Open Hillel Board, and co-host the Tipsy Torah podcast.
Rakhel is passionate about queer Torah, ritual innovation, knitting, and their guinea pig, Li’l Sebastian.
