The Water Accountability and Equity Act will make water more affordable for low- and middle-income Baltimore residents, create a pathway to pay off water debt, and establish a fair and neutral process to dispute incorrect water bills. The state legislative session is over, but our legislative relationship building and advocacy continues! JUFJ Montgomery County is hosting a RAIN OR SHINE picnic with our state legislators in celebration of the Jewish holiday of Lag Ba’Omer.

Join us to debrief the session with them, and explore how we can continue to work together. We will be gathering at the Picnic Pavilion in the Locust Grove Nature Center. This will be a fun and relaxed setting with food, treats, and a campfire — kids are welcome!

It will begin with a vigil at 6:00PM at Three Oaks Drive, near the corner of Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring. Then at 6:30PM there will be a processional to the church, one-half mile through neighborhood streets. and then there is the 7:00PM Service at Christ Congregational Church.

Lights for Liberty – Vigil for Immigrant Families

Immigrants, faith and community leaders, and allies will gather at Baltimore City Hall in support of immigrant families in our city and across the country. Shabbat begins at 8:15 p.m., so as an interfaith gathering we will welcome it in with a traditional candle lighting. Those who choose to will then proceed in a candlelit procession toward a nearby church where we will end with a vigil for all immigrant families and a call to action to end the detention of children and families by ICE and CBP. This event is hosted by JUFJ, CAIR, CASA, and Hopkins Coalition Against ICE.
